RHYTHMIC CIRCUS IN LUFKIN – THEN TO N.Y. FOR BROADWAY DEBUT
Tickets on Sale August 14 for FEET DON’T FAIL ME NOW!
LUFKIN, TX. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, August 14th at 11 am for RHYTHMIC CIRCUS – a one-of-a-kind – rapid-fire, high-spirited dance and musical troupe which will explode on the Temple Theater stage Saturday, September 14, at 7:30 pm., and again Sunday, September 15, for a Family Matinee at 2:30pm. After taking China by storm in a sold-out six-week tour, the eleven-member group will stop in Lufkin for two performances before heading to New York for their Broadway Debut. “Spectacular, joyous and inspirational – Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! will have you dancing all the way home!” claims – The Big Issue (2012). Angelina Arts Alliance proudly presents this rhythmic, musical, vocal percussion extravaganza, with tickets ranging from $32-$41 (Premium/Box $51) RHYTHMIC CIRCUS is sponsored by KTRE-TV Channel 9 and The Heart Institute of East Texas. The 2013-14 Family Matinee Series is sponsored by Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy and Jordan Family Dentistry. 2013-14 Season Sponsors are Lufkin Industries, Inc. and Memorial Health System of East Texas.
Besides outrageous tap – fusion dance, music that embraces the best of R & B, Soul, Jazz, Salsa and Reggae, and award-winning vocalists – audiences are WOWED by human beatbox extraordinaire, Aaron Heaton, (aka ‘Heatbox’). Aaron is capable of reproducing – with awe-inducing accuracy a myriad of musical instruments, including but not limited to tuba, harmonica, trumpet, maracas, turntables and even classical strings. His incredible vocal range spans from a naturally deep bass to a clear, sharp falsetto – and his repertoire ranges from calypso to classical symphonies, and even a super-funky James Brown impersonation.
The brilliance of Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! has been marked by rave reviews, sold-out engagements and numerous awards, which include: 2 Sage Awards for Outstanding Ensemble and Performance, the “Spirit of the Fringe” Award (Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s top theatrical award), 2 Upper Midwest Emmys, as well as being named “Best Dance Performance” by the City Pages. The entire 11- member cast “pours their spirit into every performance,” says co-creator/artistic director Ricci Milan. “We created the music and dance together with no more focus on one than the other. We have tried to balance the two in perfect harmony. The energy of the music guides the dance through the show and the converse is equally true. Both are powered by a story that ignites emotions and resonates with everyone. It’s the story of a dream!” Tap shoes are turned into instruments of rhythm while mixed genres of music drive the show’s momentum.
